About Cyclists in the City
I lived for over eight years and still work in the City of London.
This blog was started after I met a senior City of London official with some friends. He started by telling us: "I hate cyclists". Since then, that group of people has expanded. We're not a formal group but we came together to discuss issues relevant to cycling and walking in the Square Mile.
Over time, things have expanded a bit and the focus is now on central London as a whole.
I feel that many of London's boroughs and the Mayor of London don't take cycling seriously. I feel that is exemplified by the board of Transport for London, where there are representatives of the bus, minicab, taxi and motor industries. But not a single representative of bicycling.
As a rule, I feel that the Mayor's transport strategies treat people who cycle and walk as second-class citizens and strongly favour the private motor vehicle.

Above all, I feel that too many of London's decision-makers don't understand some very simple facts about what puts people off cycling and walking in London . The primary focus of this blog is to encourage London's politicians, planners and opinion-makers to improve the way people get around the capital's streets without them needing to resort to a private motor vehicle.
